The first example of movable type is found on the Phaistos Disc - created in the second millenium BC.
Minoan civilization flourished from about 3000 - 1450 BC. That places Minoans at the time of Egypt's first dynasty through a portion of the eighteenth dynasty. Remarkably, this enigmatic bronze age civilization was largely forgotten until 20th century excavations on Crete. The hieroglyphs on the Phaistos Disc were stamped into the clay. The artifact is largely regarded as the first example of "movable type." The meaning of the inscription is unknown. Its relationship to Minoan syllabaries (Linear A and Linear B) is a subject of debate.Source
